WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO COMPETE?

There are two requirements:

  1. As of 30 October 2024 you must be one of the following to be eligible to compete in BIUCAC 2024 -
    1. An undergraduate law student at a Non-Russell Group University in the UK or an undergraduate law student at a university in Ireland (excluding Trinity College Dublin) provided that  this is your first degree (i.e. you have not completed a previous degree); or
    2. A law graduate from a Non Russell Group University in the UK or a law graduate from a university in Ireland (excluding Trinity College Dublin) provided that you graduated in 2024; or

    3. A graduate (excluding Economics or Business Based Studies) from a Non-Russell Group University in the UK or a graduate (excluding Economics or Business Studies) from a university in Ireland (excluding Trinity College Dublin) provided that you graduated in 2024 and you are undertaking a Post Graduate Diploma in Law in 2024;

     

  2. and you have not secured a training contract .

WHERE CAN I REGISTER FOR BIUCAC?

You can register by filling out the registration form which you find on by clicking on 'Register' button under BIUCAC 2024: Round 1 on the homepage. Alternatively, you can click on this to be redirected.

IS THERE A FEE TO JOIN BIUCAC?

No.

DO I NEED TO BE A LAW SOCIETY MEMBER TO COMPETE?

No.

WILL THE COMPETITION BE HELD IN-PERSON OR ONLINE?

Rounds 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be held entirely online. Round 5 will be held in-person at the London office of Travers Smith LLP. You must be willing to travel to London if you are to compete in Round 5.

WHAT QUESTIONS WILL CONTESTANTS BE ASKED?

Unfortunately, we cannot disclose what questions you will be asked. However, there are two practice quizzes on the 'Preparation' page which you can attempt to get a sense of the types of questions you will be asked. 

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE COMPETITION?

Commercial Awareness takes time to develop. To help you prepare, the BIUCAC Committee have created a consolidated list of resources on the "Preparation" page.

WILL BIUCAC BE HOSTING OTHER EVENTS?

Yes, you can view all of these events on the bottom of the home page.

WHERE IS THE LINK TO THE TIME EXTENSION FORM?

WHERE CAN I FIND THE COMPETITION FORMAT?

You can find a downloadable format of the competition on the homepage. Alternatively, you can click on this to access the competition format. 

IS COLLABORATION WITH OTHERS ALLOWED?

No. Collaboration with other contestants during the competition constitutes cheating under the competition rules, and will result in your immediate disqualification. The only exception is in Part A of the Semi-Finals in Round 5.

WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF WINNING A PRIZE?

As the number of contestants change year-on-year, we are unable to provide you with an estimated figure of your odds in winning a prize. However, the better prepared you are, the better your odds will be.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF PARTNER LAW SOCIETIES?

The role of partner law societies is to promote BIUCAC and encourage undergraduate law students at their respective universities to sign up. Your law society can become a partner law society of BIUCAC by filling out this form.

WHO CAN I CONTACT IN AN EMERGENCY?
